Mars partners with Pairwise to develop more resilient cocoa using CRISPR-based gene editing technology, aiming to create cacao plants that can better withstand disease, heat, and climate-related stresses. Starbucks previously invested in climate-resilient coffee farms. Gene editing allows for faster and more precise trait development than traditional breeding methods. Mars also announced a $2 billion investment in U.S. manufacturing, including a new Nature’s Bakery facility in Utah.
