The exchange-traded fund (ETF) ecosystem in the US continues to grow, with 268 ETF issuers, double the number from three years ago. 45 new issuers debuted last year, and 50 are expected in 2025. Investor appetite drives this growth, with firms launching ETFs in non-traditional or niche strategies.

New ETF issuers are offering unique strategies like covered-call and derivative-income funds, attracting $29 billion in net flows in the first half of 2025. Leveraged, inverse, crypto-related, and defined outcome ETFs are also gaining popularity. Despite being relatively expensive, these ETFs are profitable, contributing to the industry’s growth.

The surge in new ETF issuers is facilitated by white-label providers like Tidal Financial and ETF Architect. These firms handle administrative tasks, making it easier for companies to launch and operate ETFs. With increased demand and streamlined operations, the industry is poised for further expansion and innovation.
