U.S. stocks lower at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average down 0.76% By Investing.com

U.S. stocks closed lower on Wednesday, with the Dow down by 0.76%. Sectors such as energy, healthcare and industrials led the losses. The best performers were Chevron, Merck & Co., and Amgen, while the worst performers were Walgreens Boots Alliance, Boeing Co, and Caterpillar Inc.

On the S&P 500, the top performers were Eli Lilly and Company, Marathon Petroleum Corp, and EOG Resources Inc. The worst performers were Insulet Corporation, Waters Corporation, and Enphase Energy Inc.

Neximmune Inc, MMTEC Inc, and Sidus Space Inc were the top performers on the NASDAQ, while E-Home Household Service Holdings, Infobird Co Ltd, and Riskon International Inc were the worst performers.

Stocks on the New York Stock Exchange were 2080 falling to 803 advancing, while on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2527 fell and 928 advanced.

Marathon Petroleum Corp and Amgen Inc rose to all-time highs, while Infobird Co Ltd fell to an all-time low.

The CBOE Volatility Index was up 6.36% to 14.04, signaling a 1-month high.

Gold futures were down 1.15% to $2,049.60 a troy ounce, while crude oil for delivery in February rose to $72.83 a barrel and the March Brent oil contract rose to $78.31 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged at 1.09, while USD/JPY rose to 103.24. The US Dollar Index Futures were up 0.26% at 102.15.
