Maersk reported a 4.2% increase in container volumes in the second quarter compared to last year, leading to a rise in full-year earnings forecast. Revenue grew 2.8% to $13.1 billion, but operating earnings fell to $845 million from $963 million.

Ocean revenue rose to $8.57 billion, but EBIT decreased to $229 million from $470 million. Despite geopolitical uncertainty affecting profits, Maersk saw strong results in marine terminals and volume growth in ocean shipping. The company raised its full-year earnings guidance.

Maersk raised its full-year financial guidance for 2025 due to resilient market demand, with pre-tax earnings expected to reach $8 billion to $9.5 billion. The company’s new east-west network has driven increased volumes and set new industry standards, contributing to solid delivery in the ocean business.

Global container volume is expected to grow between 2% and 4% due to disruptions in the Red Sea caused by threats against shipping from the Houthi militia. Maersk CEO Vincent Clerc praised operational improvements and the success of the Gemini Cooperation with Hapag-Lloyd for driving increased volumes and reliability in ocean shipping.

Ocean shipping volumes grew 4.2% year-on-year, driven by exports from Asia. Freight rates improved but remained under pressure during the quarter. The Gemini cooperation with Hapag-Lloyd, which began in June, saw schedule reliability above the 90% target, contributing to the positive results.
