Top universities Harvard and Brown have recently purchased exposure to Bitcoin through BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust, with Harvard holding a $116 million position and Brown holding $13 million. This move highlights the trend of traditional institutions seeking exposure to the cryptocurrency market.

BlackRock’s IBIT is the most successful crypto ETF, with $86.3 billion in assets under management. Since the approval of ETFs in January 2024, other major institutions have also bought exposure to Bitcoin, signaling a growing acceptance of the once obscure asset. Pension funds and U.S. states have joined in investing in Bitcoin through ETFs.
