Truckstop.com/Bloomberg Intelligence midyear survey shows carriers and brokers expect freight volumes to rise or stay flat over the next six months, despite revenue challenges and tariff concerns. Small fleet and brokerage community remains cautiously optimistic about the future, with only 16% of carriers and 36% of brokers reporting year-over-year revenue gains.

Job satisfaction metrics show a modest decrease among brokers and carriers, but only 10% of carriers are considering leaving the industry. The survey targeted grassroots operators, with 75% of carrier respondents operating five or fewer trucks. Despite financial pressures, optimism remains intact among small operators, who handle much of the industry’s activity.

Carriers are concerned about tariffs impacting the industry, with 55% believing tariffs will have a negative impact. Brokers have soured on the current administration’s policies, with only 44% believing they will benefit trucking. Financial pressures are leading operators to scale back growth investments, with fewer carriers planning to purchase new equipment and brokerages hiring additional brokers.
