Treasuries closed lower on Friday as bond prices fell, pushing the yield on the 10-year note up to 4.328 percent. Mixed U.S. economic data contributed to the uncertainty, with retail sales meeting expectations but consumer sentiment unexpectedly dropping in August. Excluding auto sales, retail sales rose 0.3 percent, in line with forecasts. Consumer sentiment fell to 58.6, below the expected 62.0, while year-ahead inflation expectations rose to 4.9 percent. Import prices increased more than expected in July, and industrial production slightly decreased. Next week, focus will be on housing data and remarks from central bank officials at the Jackson Hole Economic Symposium.
