Amazon argues that a U.S. law protects them from consumer lawsuit over casino-style apps. The company has asked for a pause while an appeals court decides on similar cases against Google, Apple, and Meta. This could lead to hundreds of millions of dollars in damages. The virtual casino apps users were able to buy and play without cash prizes.

The lawsuit accuses Amazon of offering illegal casino apps. A Washington state gambling law was said to have been violated by these apps. The plaintiff is a Nevada resident who said he’s been addicted to “illegal slots.” Amazon takes a stand against moving the case forward at this time, saying it will impose hardship on everyone.
