Walgreens Boots Alliance, Inc. (NASDAQ: WBA) shares saw a slight increase on Tuesday. The company’s specialty pharmacy arm expanded its drug distribution network to cover 265 therapies, solidifying its position as a top specialty pharmacy network in the U.S. LDDs are regulated medicines distributed through selected specialty pharmacies, often with complex regimens and high costs.
Walgreens Specialty Pharmacy operates independently from pharmacy benefit managers, allowing it to collaborate flexibly with insurers, pharmaceutical manufacturers, healthcare providers, and other partners. This independence enables the company to expand its collaborations without being limited by direct PBM ties. Specialty medicine is a rapidly growing sector, with approximately 75% of new drugs falling into this category.
Walgreens employs a dedicated team of pharmacists, nurses, patient advocates, and insurance experts to support patients with unique conditions and complex treatment needs. Some of the therapies added in 2025 include Yeztugo, Nemluvio, and Imkeldi, targeting various health conditions. WBA stock has gained over 10% in the past year, with investors able to access the stock through Invesco S&P 500 Equal Weight Consumer Staples ETF (NYSE: RSPS).
Currently, WBA stock is trading higher by 0.21% at $12.03. Investors are keeping an eye on the company’s growth and expansion in the specialty pharmacy sector, as well as its increasing collaborations with healthcare stakeholders.
