Less than two months away from the 2026 Social Security cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) announcement on Oct. 15, 2025. The Social Security Administration calculates COLAs by comparing inflation data, with the Senior Citizens League predicting a 2.7% increase. This would add about $54 to the $2,007 average monthly retirement benefit. The average COLA over the last 25 years is 2.5%, so a 2.7% increase would be slightly above average. Social Security recipients may need to adjust budgets accordingly. Stay tuned for the official announcement to plan ahead for next year’s benefits.
