Asian Markets Mostly Lower | Nasdaq
From NASDAQ:
Asian stock markets are trading mostly lower on Monday, despite slightly positive cues from Wall Street on Friday. Key U.S. economic data, including strong job growth data, has raised concerns about interest rates. Meanwhile, the Australian stock market is trading slightly higher, hoping to recoup some earlier losses.
Most Asian markets are on the downside, and the Australian benchmark S&P/ASX 200 has moved to a tad below the 7,500.00 level. Australia waits cautiously for domestic inflation data later in the week for further clues. The S&P/ASX 200 Index is down 16.30 points to 7,472.80, while Australian stocks closed slightly lower on Friday.
On Wall Street, stocks saw considerable volatility after trending lower during the past several sessions. The tech-heavy Nasdaq inched up, and the Dow also crept up, but major European markets moved to the downside. Crude oil prices surged to $73.81 a barrel on Friday due to fears of an escalation of the Israel-Hamas war.
