A lucky patron recently found a full Bitcoin, worth nearly $115,000, in a pack of cards bought at GameStop. The card was part of Cardsmith’s Currency series, offering redemption for various cryptocurrencies like Ethereum and Litecoin, with 1 BTC or 1 ETH being the top prizes.
The collector who found the Bitcoin was surprised by the discovery, telling Cardsmiths they didn’t think it was a serious possibility. This marks at least the third full Bitcoin redemption from Cardsmiths in the last year, with other collectors winning from $33 and $50 packs respectively.
Despite being entitled to the full Bitcoin, the recent collector is only keeping 0.5 BTC as they pledged to donate half of its value to charity. Cardsmiths’ Series 4 Currency cards are sold out, but their new SPACE Series offers packs with unredeemed full Bitcoin cards for as low as $13.75.
GameStop doesn’t directly sell Bitcoin, but they do hold BTC. GameStop’s CEO, Ryan Cohen, has hinted at potential crypto payments in the future. The odds of pulling a crypto redemption card from Cardsmiths’ packs are 1:192, resulting in significant gains based on Bitcoin’s current price.
A Cardsmiths representative did not immediately respond to Decrypt’s request for comment regarding the recent discovery of a full Bitcoin in a pack of cards.
