Jodie Foster says Gen Z are ‘really annoying’ for turning up late and not using grammar

From Fortune:

Oscar-winning actor Jodie Foster reflects on working with Gen Z in a recent interview. She says they can really be annoying in the workplace.

Foster recently completed work on the fourth season of True Detective and praised the crew, noting that she enjoyed working with the team. She described her attitude on set as light-hearted, saying she made jokes all the time.

Specific to her wider acting career, Foster criticized younger people in this generation as being a hindrance in a professional setting. She said that the Gen Z staff in her workplace could be irritating and undependable.

Fellow Oscar-winning actress Whoopi Golberg has also criticized Gen Z’s approach to the workforce. She highlighted their lack of work ethic as a barrier for entry to the housing market, making a connection to Foster’s criticism.

Linguistics professor Matthew Veras Barros repeated Foster’s observations in an article, debunking the misconception that kids these days are ruining English. He clarified that throughout history it has always been the younger generations who drive language change.

Email is another source of friction with Gen Z peers. Gen Z workers reportedly prefer chat to email, according to CEO of IT firm Wipro Thierry Delaporte. The generation is almost twice as likely to utilize work IM platforms, showing a preference to showcase their personality through office interactions.

Foster also heaped praise on non-binary actor Bella Ramsey, recognizing the struggle of growing up and the freedom that today’s stars have in a changing industry compared to when Foster was coming up.

The vector of authenticity is happening and offers the possibility of real freedom, according to Foster, as she looks back on how she used her own platform to contribute during her time.
