The American Express EveryDay Card: A decade-old Amex desperately in need of an update.
From Fortune:
The Amex EveryDay® Credit Card from American Express is in need of an update to compete with better options offering cash back rewards, welcome bonuses and redemptions. The 0% APR for 15 months on both purchases and balance transfers is still decent, with no annual fee. However, it doesn’t stand out next to other competing cards like the Chase Freedom Flex℠.
The Amex EveryDay® Credit Card from American Express offers 0% APR for 15 months on both purchases and balance transfers, a 10,000-point welcome bonus and 2X points on groceries and eligible travel purchases. Unfortunately, it’s outdated compared to today’s competing cards.
The Amex EveryDay® Credit Card from American Express hasn’t been updated since its launch in 2014 and offers less competitive points for groceries compared to other cards in the market. For those considering this card, it’s best for entry-level travel and for keeping points alive after downgrading from a higher-fee Membership Rewards earning card.
If you’re not an existing Blue Cash Everyday cardholder or spend less than $6,000 on groceries annually, the Amex EveryDay® Credit Card from American Express may not be the best option. There are better alternatives in the market with more appealing rewards, benefits, and welcome bonuses.
With the American Express EveryDay card, you can earn 2X Membership Rewards Points on up to $6,000 in groceries annually and on select travel booked through AmexTravel.com. The welcome offer includes 10,000 points after spending $1,000 in the first 3 months of account opening.
Redeem your Membership Rewards points by using Pay with Points at checkout, redeeming for gift cards, covering your charges, using Pay with Points through AmexTravel.com, and transferring points to various travel partners.
The Amex EveryDay® Credit Card from American Express offers a 0% APR for 15 months on purchases and balance transfers, with an annual fee of $0. However, watch out for the 2.7% foreign transaction fee and the regular APR, which can reach up to 29.24% based on your creditworthiness. Additionally, the balance transfer fee is the greater of $5 or 3% of the transfer amount.
The American Express EveryDay’s most compelling benefit is the 20% bonus when you make 20+ purchases in a billing cycle. However, considering those Membership Rewards Points are only worth 0.6 cents each when redeemed for cash, it may not be the best option for everyone.
