From Fortune:
In 1981, the post-punk band New Order released “Everything’s Gone Green.” Fast forward to 2024, Jeffrey Currie predicts a return to green landscape of pre-inflation times, causing energy prices to rise. His predictions build upon warnings made since 2020 about the commodities “supercycle.” Politician’s flip-flops on green policies worldwide also contribute to this forecast.
President Biden initially had plans to end fossil fuel in 2019, but has been observed to take a much softer stance towards the fossil fuel industry, through releasing oil and approving various oil-drilling projects, as seen in the strategies to combat inflation. Similar trends are seen in other governments and industries worldwide. This has caused energy prices to remain affordable.
Leaders all over the globe have pledged to phase out fossil fuels in this transiting phase. It contrasts 2023’s “immaculate disinflation”, signifying it is classic end of cycle. Despite the uncertainty it presents, as we prepare for 2024, return of green energy policies does mean rising commodity prices, could bring an end to U.S.’s “immaculate disinflation”, representative of a cycle.
