The IRS just announced when taxpayers can start filing returns this year
From Dow Jones & Company:
Americans can start filing their income-tax returns with the IRS on Monday, Jan. 29, and the deadline to file or get an extension is April 15 or April 17 in Maine and Massachusetts. The IRS expects to have received 128.7 million income-tax returns and will issue refunds of an average of $3,167. The new tax season will include new developments, such as the IRS’s effort to launch its own free tax-filing platform in 12 states. Lawmakers are wrangling over the IRS funding for audits of rich taxpayers and corporations and the partial government shutdown. Taxpayers will still be able to file their returns if there’s a lapse in funding.
