CANADA STOCKS-Toronto shares gain on tech boost

The Toronto Stock Exchange’s S&P/TSX composite index gained 0.66% on Monday, with tech stocks recouping last week’s losses. Megacaps like Amazon and Alphabet gained as Treasury yields fell, while the healthcare sector rose 1.9% and energy and materials stocks fell due to oil and gold price declines.
Investors are gearing up for the quarterly U.S. earnings season, with big U.S. banks starting on Friday. U.S. consumer price data due on Thursday will also be closely watched for interest rate cues.
Shares of Air Canada, Canada Goose Holdings, and Bombardier rose on Monday after news of more consumers flying Air Canada during the holidays and price target upgrades for the latter two. Air Transat gained after agreeing to a new labor contract.
