Ning Jin, former Viking Global CIO, is launching Avantyr Capital, a long-short equity manager. The new fund has 19 employees, including 10 investment staff, from top firms like Coatue and Blackstone. Jin aims to focus on technology, media, telecoms, consumer, financials, and industrials sectors with a deep fundamental research approach.

The team at Avantyr Capital includes Terrence Cheng, Adam Marcus, Lea Zhang, Christopher Parks, Andrew Seketa, and Christopher Fletcher. Jin left Viking Global after 17 years and named his new venture after the Italian word “avanti.” The firm is expected to raise at least $1 billion in assets and will utilize alternative datasets and AI tools for in-depth analysis.

Avantyr Capital is set to begin trading in the fourth quarter with a focus on forward-looking investment strategies. The manager declined to comment on the recent developments.
