America Has Plenty of Natural Gas. So Why Is New England Left Out in the Cold?

Constellation Energy plans to retire a Massachusetts power plant, putting the fate of the neighboring Everett Marine Terminal in question. The terminal is the biggest importer of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in the region and its closure could impact New Englanders’ ability to stay warm in winter. Constellation is seeking new gas buyers to keep the terminal running, but if unsuccessful, the import facility may also shut down. This comes at a time when America is the largest natural-gas producer, making the situation a matter of concern for the region’s energy supply.
