Boeing 737 Max loose door scandal widens as Alaska, United find missing bolts
From Time Inc.:
1. Federal investigators are examining whether missing bolts led to a door panel sliding upward and flying off an Alaska Airlines jetliner. The discovery of loose parts in panels on other Boeing 737 Max 9 jets, as well as United and Alaska’s reports of some loose hardware, are adding pressure on Boeing to address concerns from the incident.
2. Boeing has pledged to help address any and all findings from the airlines’ inspections of the 737 Max 9 jets. The Federal Aviation Administration grounded 171 Max 9s for inspections after the terrifying fuselage blowout on Friday night.
3. At a news briefing, officials revealed that roller guides at the top of a door plug broke during the flight. Federal investigators are examining whether bolts that help prevent the panel from sliding up on rollers were missing when the plane took off.
4. Alaska and United have fewer seats in their Max 9s, and therefore replace heavy doors with plugs. As a result, the door plugs, which are inserted where emergency exit doors would be located, became a focus of investigations following the incident.
5. The recent incident involving a Boeing 737 Max 9 jet has raised concerns and led to strict inspections and grounding of some 737 Max 9 jets. NTSB officials are working to understand why a door panel came loose from an Alaska Airlines flight.
