Valeo has opened a new production site in Shanghai’s Waigang Industrial Park to enhance manufacturing capabilities for advanced driving assistance systems in China. The facility will support software-defined vehicles and autonomous driving technologies, focusing on research, development, and production of ADAS sensors and computing products.

The new facility spans around 30,000m2 and will produce pivotal LiDAR technology crucial for Level 3 and higher autonomous driving. It will also manufacture computing products like domain and zonal controllers to advance Valeo’s suite of technologies for software-defined vehicles and autonomous driving in China.

China serves as a hub of innovation for Valeo’s BRAIN division, with integrated R&D and manufacturing sites in Guangzhou, Shanghai, and Shenzhen, along with a standalone R&D centre in Wuhan. Valeo entered the Chinese market in 1994 and currently employs over 18,000 workers in the country.

Valeo Group CEO Christophe Périllat emphasized the importance of China’s automotive market as a global innovation hub, particularly in software-defined vehicles, ADAS, and electrification technologies. The new production unit demonstrates Valeo’s commitment to actively participating in China’s automotive industry transformation.

In terms of financial performance, Valeo reported a total sales figure of €10,660m for the first half of the year, reflecting a 4.1% decrease compared to the same period in the previous year. The company is focused on strengthening innovation capabilities in China to drive the advancement of ADAS and autonomous driving technologies.
