A survey by Chartered Accountants Ireland Leinster Society and Barden shows chartered accountants in Leinster are earning an average of €131,654, a 6.6% increase from last year and a 20% rise since 2020. Those with five years’ experience now earn €97,527 on average, while newly qualified accountants see pay rise to €72,450.
Respondents are satisfied with their salaries, with 88% seeing an increase in total remuneration over the past three years, and 77% expecting further rises in the coming year. The integration of AI is growing, with 28% using AI tools, 57% viewing AI as an opportunity, and 66% believing it will impact their careers positively.
The survey also highlights the positive effects of automation and online collaboration tools, with 69% and 66% of respondents respectively feeling optimistic about their impact on careers. Additionally, 44% have received promotions in the past three years, and 80% value remote work options as a key benefit.
Employers prioritize pension benefits, with 89% of members having a pension plan and 95% receiving contributions from their employers. Beyond monetary rewards, employers are promoting work-life balance, offering hybrid working options, parental and carers’ leave, and employee assistance programs, leading to high satisfaction rates among employees.
CAILS chairperson Sarah Murphy notes the value employers place on chartered accountants’ work, highlighting the profession’s adaptability to technology and the potential for career progression. With increasing AI usage and ethical standards, chartered accountancy remains a fulfilling and opportunistic career path.
