Ford’s redesigned three-row Expedition SUV is experiencing tremendous growth, with 8,724 units sold in August, a 53.7% increase from last year and the best sales in 21 years. The Expedition is outperforming Ford’s overall sales, which were up 3.9% in August. Despite the rise of EVs, customers are still drawn to gas-powered vehicles like the Expedition.

Ford’s EV sales surged by 19.3% in August as customers rushed to purchase before the federal tax credit expiration. Analysts predict a decline in EV sales post-credit expiry. General Motors also reported record EV sales in August. Ford’s large trucks and SUVs, like the Expedition, remain popular despite the EV trend.

Ford’s CEO acknowledged the interest in EVs but highlighted the continued appeal of larger vehicles like the Expedition. While Ford has an electric vehicle segment, it prioritizes hybrid models over all-electric options. The Expedition lineup starts at $74,000 and includes popular models like Platinum, Tremor, and King Ranch.

The latest Expedition model was unveiled in October and started shipping five months ago from the Kentucky Truck Plant. Ford faces competition from GM’s Tahoe, Suburban, and Yukon, as well as new entrants like the Jeep Wagoneer, Kia, and Hyundai. Despite the EV trend, Ford’s commitment to large vehicles like the Expedition remains strong.
