A recent study compares various investment strategies, such as all-stock portfolios, target date funds, and 60-40 portfolios. The study found that all-stock strategies led to more wealth at retirement, higher income during retirement, and more wealth at death. However, all-stock portfolios experienced larger drawdowns, meaning they were subject to greater volatility, and had the highest probability of financial ruin. Investors should consider their own risk tolerance and may find target date funds and 60-40 portfolios to be excellent options. For domestic stocks, investors may consider an S&P 500 index fund or Vanguard Total Stock Market ETF, while for international stocks, consider the Vanguard Total International Stock ETF.
