Dave Calhoun ‘shaken to the bone’ by Alaska Air accident, and admits Boeing mistake

Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun was visibly shaken after a close call with Alaska Airlines, where a door panel on a 737 Max 9 tore off at 16,000 feet. The event could have been the first fatal aviation accident in the US since 2009. After acknowledging Boeing’s mistake, stockholders will be looking for transparency and improvements to ensure no repeat of the incident. The latest crisis comes after a 2019 cover-up around its 737 Max flight software that caused hundreds of deaths. Mismanagement, including stock buybacks despite the 737 MAX crisis and bailouts needed during the pandemic, have led to speculation about Calhoun stepping aside.
