Alaska Airlines cancels all flights on Boeing 737 Max 9 planes as it awaits instruction
From Fortune Magazine:
Alaska Airlines have cancelled all flights on Boeing 737 Max 9 planes following an in-flight blowout of a fuselage panel, affecting 110-150 daily flights, and United Airlines, as the only other US carrier to operate the Max 9, has cancelled 200 flights. The FAA grounded all Max 9s, following the incident.
The blowout of the fuselage panel, due to a loose door plug, occurred on flight 1282 over Oregon, causing an emergency landing but no serious injuries.
Boeing and the FAA have not yet provided guidance on inspecting the fleet. Loose bolts and other problems have also been discovered in the panel doors on other Max 9s.
The Max 9 is the latest version of Boeing’s 737, which has faced issues since 2018, when two Max 8 jets crashed and killed 346 people.
