Stellantis recalls 91,787 Jeep Grand Cherokee plug-in hybrid electric vehicles in the US due to a software error in the hybrid control processor. Approximately 1% of vehicles are affected, with a potential safety risk of losing propulsion unexpectedly, leading to a vehicle crash without warning.

The issue stems from a battery pack control module microprocessor overloading, causing a reset of the hybrid control processor. The production of affected vehicles started in July 2021 and ended in August 2025, prompting an investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles received reports of loss of propulsion complaints in Jeep Grand Cherokee PHEVs, leading to an identification of 96 customer assistance records potentially related to the issue. Despite no accidents or injuries reported, a safety-related defect was confirmed, prompting a recall.

Stellantis plans to communicate the remedy for the recall to owners in late October 2025. This recall follows a recent one involving 219,577 vehicles in the US due to a rear-view camera system defect. Stellantis aims to address safety concerns and ensure the well-being of customers.
