The market benchmark reached a new high, up 0.1% above the Sept. 4 closing high of 6502.08. The Nasdaq Composite also hit a record high, up 0.1%. The Dow rose by 118 points, or 0.3%, but was still 100 points below its Aug. 28 closing high of 45,636.90.
