Google lays off hundreds working on Assistant software, other parts of company

Google is cutting hundreds of jobs from its voice-activated Google Assistant software and Devices and Services team. The co-founders of Fitbit, which is owned by Google, are also leaving the company as part of the reorganization. Google spokesperson has confirmed that the layoffs are to align resources with the company’s biggest product priorities. The number of roles impacted has not been specified. As of September 2023, Alphabet had 182,381 employees globally. Last October, Google announced plans to add generative AI features into its virtual assistant.
