eBay to pay $3 million fine over stalking criminal charges from spider, cockroach harassment campaign

EBay will pay a $3 million fine to resolve criminal charges over a harassment campaign waged by employees who sent live spiders, cockroaches, and other disturbing items to the home of a Massachusetts couple. The Justice Department charged eBay with stalking and other offenses. The couple produced an online newsletter called EcommerceBytes that upset eBay executives with its coverage. The question of whether Wenig knew of the harassment campaign is up in the air. Seven former employees pleaded guilty to charges in the case, including Wenig’s personal orders to “take her down” without criminal charges being pursued against the former eBay CEO. Seven former employees ultimately pleaded guilty to charges in the case. Baugh was among those who pleaded guilty. Harville was also involved in the harassment.
