BlackRock Inc. is exploring tokenizing its exchange-traded funds, a move subject to regulatory approval. The fund shares could be issued as tokens on the blockchain. BlackRock offers popular ETFs like iShares MSCI Emerging Markets, iShares Bitcoin Trust, and iShares Core S&P 500. Nasdaq recently filed to allow trading of tokenized stocks. Robinhood Markets launched tokenized stocks in Europe.
BlackRock’s shares closed 2.84% higher at $1,134.18 on Thursday. Year-to-date, the stock has gained over 10%. BlackRock previously launched the BlackRock USD Institutional Digital Liquidity Fund on Ethereum, now accessible on seven blockchains. Nasdaq filed to allow trading of tokenized stocks, offering holders the same rights as traditional shares. Robinhood Markets launched tokenized stocks in Europe.
