Top white hat hackers in Web3 are earning millions, exceeding traditional cybersecurity salaries. Immunefi has paid over $120 million to researchers, with 30 millionaires made. Critical vulnerabilities result in payouts between $1-14 million. DeFi protocols with high TVL and weak bounty programs are most at risk. Bridges remain prime targets due to complexity and high value secured.
The largest Web3 white hat payout was $10 million for a Wormhole bridge flaw. Despite this, Wormhole faced a $321 million exploit in 2022. Jump Crypto and Oasis.app recovered $225 million from the hacker. No-code exploits are rising, with bridges being lucrative targets. High TVL DeFi projects with weak security are most vulnerable.
Crypto hacks and scams cost $163 million in August, up 15% from July. Only 16 attacks were recorded, down from 20 in June. Major incidents include a $91 million social engineering scam and a $50 million breach at Btcturk exchange. Overall incidents are decreasing, with two major losses driving August’s total.
