Opinion: Amazon may scrap its iRobot deal, but there’s still hope for a tech M&A revival

Amazon’s pending acquisition of iRobot is at risk due to scrutiny of anti-competitive business tactics. U.S. and EU regulators are investigating Amazon’s acquisition, with the EU seeking assurances that Amazon won’t harm competition. There are hopes for increased tech M&A activity this year, with Hewlett-Packard Enterprise recently agreeing to buy Juniper Networks for $14 billion. While Amazon may let the iRobot deal lapse, other companies are returning to M&A. IRobot, currently pending Amazon coverage, is experienced in difficult times and is capable of navigating the future alone. Shares of iRobot rose 4.4% after a five-day selloff.
