Arkema invests in sodium-ion battery startup Tiamat By Investing.com
From Investing.com:
Arkema invests in Tiamat, a startup specializing in sodium-ion battery technology, as a strategic step to expand its role in the battery materials sector. Tiamat, a spin-off from France’s CNRS, offers an alternative to lithium-ion batteries, aiming to address the supply constraints of lithium. Other investors in Tiamat’s recent funding round include Stellantis Ventures and MBDA, with plans to construct a 5 GWh Giga-factory in France, potentially creating a thousand jobs. Arkema’s Chief Technology Officer sees sodium-ion technology as aligned with the company’s strategy to innovate for a sustainable world, with its advanced materials portfolio well-suited to support a range of battery technologies. Arkema’s broader ambition is to become a pure player in Specialty Materials by 2024, with its three main segments making up about 91% of its sales in 2022. Arkema reported sales of approximately €11.5 billion last year and employs over 21,000 staff across 55 countries.
