EU antitrust chief meets Apple, Alphabet, and Qualcomm chiefs
From Nasdaq:
The EU’s antitrust chief, Margrethe Vestager, has met with the CEOs of Apple, Alphabet, and Qualcomm to discuss regulation and competition policy compliance. This meeting was also focused on European digital regulation including the Digital Markets Act and competition policy.
Vestager updated social media platform X on three different meetings, with Apple’s Tim Cook, Alphabet’s Sundar Pichai, and Qualcomm’s Cristiano Amon.
During these discussions, topics included Apple’s obligation to allow app distribution outside of its AppStore, Google’s design of choice screens, and Qualcomm’s role in the EU’s economic security.
The Digital Markets Act requires companies with more than 45 million monthly active users and a 75-billion-euro market capitalization to adhere to certain regulations, such as allowing messaging apps to interoperate with rivals.
Meetings with the CEOs of Broadcom and Nvidia are also on Vestager’s agenda as she focuses on European digital regulation and competition policy.
