The company reaches both DIY and professional customers, with the latter group accounting for 50% of revenue despite only representing 10% of the customer base. Home Depot’s operating margin, sales per square foot, and return on invested capital are all better than Lowe’s, in part due to the higher contribution from professional customers. While Home Depot faces near-term headwinds, the home improvement industry’s size and positive long-term prospects make it an attractive investment option.
