The Internet Computer (ICP) is positioning itself as the go-to network for on-chain artificial intelligence (AI), aiming to revolutionize the tech stack with AI as the primary developer of applications, according to founder Dominic Williams. While crypto prices are driven by market mechanics, the underlying technology of ICP has yet to be reflected in its price.
ICP made waves by demonstrating neural networks running as smart contracts, showcasing AI running natively on a blockchain. Unlike other networks that rely on off-chain infrastructure, ICP integrates the full AI development and execution stack on-chain, creating a self-writing internet where AI generates applications hosted directly on Internet Computer.
With the vision of AI replacing much of today’s developer workflow, ICP aims to be the optimal environment for AI-generated applications. Features like “reverse gas” eliminate the need for firewalls or database migrations, making it easier for ordinary users to create customized apps without technical expertise, paving the way for AI-driven innovations.
Despite early hackathons showcasing the potential of AI on ICP, the ICP token has yet to see sustained momentum. Williams believes that markets will catch up soon, leading to Web3 outcompeting Web2 technologically. The shock will come when users realize they can simply talk to an AI and a blockchain app will appear at a URL.
