Wabtec plans to expand its Barton manufacturing facility to increase production capacity and create 150 skilled jobs by Q4 2026. The site will employ up to 500 workers and support various product lines for UK rail operators. The move follows the closure of Wabtec’s Doncaster site, with remaining work transferring to Barton.

Lichfield MP Dave Robertson praised the investment, stating it will provide opportunities for the region and boost confidence in the West Midlands as a business hub. Wabtec is committed to UK manufacturing, with managing director Tim Bentley highlighting the company’s dedication to creating quality jobs in Barton. The closure of the Doncaster facility aims to ensure long-term competitiveness in the rail sector.

Wabtec recently finalized a €675m acquisition of Frauscher Sensor Technology Group to enhance its Digital Intelligence business with railway signalling technologies. The expansion in Barton aligns with Wabtec’s strategy to strengthen its presence in the UK rail sector and support the growth of its industrial landscape.
