Amazon Web Services (AWS) and SAP are collaborating to offer SAP Sovereign Cloud services on AWS’s planned European Sovereign Cloud, backed by a $9.16 billion investment. This partnership aims to address digital sovereignty needs and drive AI innovation for European customers, providing security-enhanced solutions tailored to industry standards.
The first region of AWS’s European Sovereign Cloud is set to open in Brandenburg, Germany, by late 2025, offering public sector organizations and regulated industries flexibility around data residency, autonomy, and resiliency. With SAP Sovereign Cloud already operational in several markets, its arrival in Europe expands secure cloud options for customers, promoting secure innovation and compliance.
The AWS European Sovereign Cloud will be independent from existing AWS Regions, ensuring no reliance on non-EU infrastructure. This initiative is designed to help organizations innovate securely, meet local regulatory requirements, and scale operations according to their needs. SAP Sovereign Cloud on AWS European Sovereign Cloud will launch with SAP BTP and SAP Cloud ERP, enabling secure innovation, compliance, and scalable operations.
