Apple Offers Discounts To IPhones In China Amid Weak Demand

From Nasdaq:

Tech giant Apple Inc. (AAPL) has begun offering rare discounts on its products in China, including the latest iPhones and MacBook Air computers in response to rising competition and waning demand for its flagship smartphone.

From January 18 to 21, Apple is giving a discount of 500 Chinese yuan ($70) on its iPhone 15 range, as well as discounts on select Mac models and the iPad, just before the Lunar New Year in mid-February.

While third-party retailers in China offer iPhone discounts for holidays, it is rare for Apple to directly offer discounts on its products on its website.

Reports show that Apple’s iPhone sales saw a 30% decline year-on-year in the first week of this month, and a 3% decline in China in 2023, driven by competition from local players like Xiaomi and Huawei.

China’s government has been supporting Huawei, which has seen sanctions placed on it by the U.S., and has reportedly told some government workers not to use iPhones for official business.
