What does law require for canceled airline flights, refunds, rebooking?

A winter storm swept the eastern US, cancelling and delaying thousands of flights. Airlines must give cancellations and reschedule flights when bad weather is predicted. Passengers stuck in the airport should get in line to speak to an airline representative and call or go online to connect to the airline’s reservations staff.

You can try calling another airline, but they aren’t required to put you on another carrier’s flight. Passengers are also entitled to a refund of any bag fees, seat upgrades or other extras that they didn’t get to use. According to Joe Biden, U.S. airlines aren’t known for their exceptional service and must do better.
