Microsoft’s Chief Commercial Officer, Judson Althoff, will become CEO of commercial business, allowing Satya Nadella to focus on the technical side. Althoff will lead a new organization combining sales, marketing, and operations to drive Microsoft’s AI dominance. Nadella aims to concentrate on technical work like datacenter buildout and AI science.
The reorganization will help Nadella and engineering leaders focus on technical innovation. Althoff will lead a commercial leadership team with members from engineering, sales, marketing, operations, and finance. Nadella emphasized the importance of managing and growing the commercial business while exploring new AI frontiers flawlessly.
Microsoft consolidated its global sales and marketing organization into one unified group led by Althoff in 2021. The company recently merged its marketplaces for AI tools for businesses into “Microsoft Marketplace.” Previously, tools for developers and applications were on separate platforms, now unified under one offering.
