Google CEO tells employees to expect more job cuts this year – The Verge

Google CEO Sundar Pichai has warned employees to expect more job cuts in 2024, aiming to simplify execution and drive velocity. The move is a part of the company’s efforts to adopt AI and automation. Although Pichai emphasized that these layoffs will not be as large as last year’s, Google’s ambitious goals will still be prioritized. Last week, Google announced layoffs in various teams including Voice Assistant, hardware, advertising sales, and augmented reality. In January 2023, Alphabet announced plans to cut 12,000 jobs, affecting 6% of its global workforce. As of September 2023, the company had 182,381 employees globally.
