Walmart-backed OnePay expands its financial services to include cryptocurrency trading and custody on its mobile app. Founded in 2021, OnePay aims to become an American super app like WeChat by offering banking services, credit and debit cards, buy now pay later loans, and wireless plans.
With the addition of bitcoin and ether trading, OnePay users can now hold crypto in their app, potentially converting it to cash for purchases or card payments. The move reflects the growing mainstream adoption of crypto, with big banks like Morgan Stanley also entering the space to offer retail clients direct access to crypto.
OnePay’s ties to Walmart give it an advantage, as its app is integrated into Walmart’s U.S. locations’ checkout process, reaching 150 million Americans weekly. The fintech firm aims to serve a broader population of Americans underserved by traditional banks, positioning itself as a competitive player in the financial services industry.
