Eni, an Italian energy company, has resumed offshore exploration in Libya’s Block 16/4 after a five-year hiatus. The exploratory well C1-16/4 was drilled to 1,012ft before Covid-19 halted operations. The Scarabeo-9 rig is now re-entering to complete drilling to a depth of 10,520ft in Contract Area D, 95km off the coast. This move follows Eni’s restart of exploration in the country last year after a ten-year break due to political instability. Mellitah Oil and Gas, a joint venture between Eni and NOC, has contracted US-based Hill International to oversee the Structures A&E project in Contract Area D, aiming to boost local gas production and support exports to Europe.
