Rio Tinto, Mitsui, and Nippon Steel are investing US$733 million in the West Angelas Sustaining Project in Western Australia’s Pilbara region. This project will unlock new iron ore deposits, maintaining an annual production capacity of 35 million tonnes. The initiative will create 600 jobs during construction and support around 950 full-time roles once operational. The project is part of Rio Tinto’s efforts to maintain a total production capacity of 130 million tonnes per annum. Additionally, progress is being made on a pre-feasibility study for Rhodes Ridge, targeting up to 40Mtpa in initial capacity by 2030.
