OpenAI and AMD have partnered to deploy six gigawatts of AI compute capacity, with plans to activate one gigawatt by the second half of next year. OpenAI has invested heavily in AI infrastructure, agreeing to purchase up to 160 million shares of AMD stock. Data center spending reached $134 billion in Q1 and $158 billion in Q2, driven by investments in AI infrastructure. OpenAI expanded its involvement in the Stargate initiative, aiming to bring seven gigawatts of AI capacity online. AMD also entered a strategic alliance with Nvidia to deploy 10 gigawatts of AI processing capacity.
