49ers QB Brock Purdy made less money this year than 16 college football players

Despite being the starting QB of the No. 1 NFC seed team in the NFL playoffs and having impressive stats, Brock Purdy’s $870,000 salary is surprisingly low compared to other QBs. His fellow rookie Trey Lance, who is his backup, is on a four-year, $34 million deal with the team. The NCAA began allowing college athletes to earn name, image and likeness (NIL) money in 2021, prompting some college athletes to earn more than Purdy this season. In addition to his salary, Purdy makes money from off-field endorsements with brands including Alaska Airlines, Toyota, and Buffalo Wild Wings.
