Critics Slam Apple As ‘Enemy Number 1’ For Alienating Developers With Steep 27% App Store Commission

From Nasdaq Stock Market:

Apple’s decision to implement a 27% fee on sales from app links has sparked backlash from developers and analysts. After winning an antitrust case, Apple swiftly imposed the new commission on purchases made through iOS app links. The 27% fee is only slightly lower than Apple’s 30% App Store commissions, making it less appealing for developers.

Ark Invest analyst Andrew Kim believes this move could alienate the developer community, potentially undermining Apple’s position in the mobile computing market. Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney has criticized Apple’s “bad-faith compliance” and plans to contest it in district court. David Heinemeier Hansson, creator of Ruby on Rails, also slammed Apple’s policies and likened the company to being the new “enemy #1” for developers. He believes that Apple’s approach mirrors the mistakes made by Microsoft in the past.

Amidst the criticism, developers and industry observers believe that Apple’s new commission could harm price competition and drive developers away from the platform. These developments may lead to further tension between Apple and its developer community.
