Lidl is considering centralizing its HR and recruitment departments in the UK, putting 130 positions at risk of redundancy. This move aims to streamline operations and support expansion plans. Employees were notified on 10 October 2025, with consultations ongoing for affected staff, with potential redundancies starting from March 2026.

The discount retailer plans to consolidate HR functions at its London headquarters, creating 100 new HR roles. The company’s strategic review aims to improve efficiency and business model. Lidl previously announced the removal of 70 positions at its head office in early 2025. Other UK supermarket chains have also undertaken similar measures this year.

In early 2025, Lidl announced plans to invest £500m in the UK and open 40 new stores. Sainsbury’s eliminated 3,000 positions in January, while Morrisons shed 365 roles in March. These restructuring efforts aim to streamline operations and support growth. Several UK supermarket chains have made similar moves in recent months.
